About This Thing
I've been around for a while. I first set up something like this site just about the time the Web was getting going. The first version was a HyperCard stack (anybody remember HyperCard from Apple?). It enabled visual filing of stuff on my shelf. It counted in octal (HyperCard could only display 8 colors!). That was a while back, say mid 1990's. So the idea's been kicking around in the back of my head for a while. I finally decided to get this happening. It's written in PHP5 with a MySQL backend (surprise, surprise). I hope you enjoy it.
Don't try to convert all your files at once. Start with a fresh drawer and add in your new folders using filetager.com. Then as you need to re-file things, convert them one at a time to filetager. If you really want to play it safe, you can still file folders alphabetically by their name in filetager, rather than numerically.
Eating Dog Food
There's an old saying in the software business: "You have to eat your own dog food." This means that if you produce software, you should run it yourself. If you make an accounting package, you should run your business off of it. So, do I eat my own dog food? Yes. Here's a photo of the front of my filing cabinet:
